Avelo Airlines celebrated their first Caribbean flight destination with nonstop service from Connecticut to Puerto Rico, according to a press release.
Connecticut residents, home to roughly 300,000 Puerto Ricans, can now fly directly from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) to San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) for as low as $99 one-way.
San Juan marks Avelo’s first destination outside of the continental United States, with flights twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“It’s officially time – Viaja Con Avelo!” said Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy. “With the third-largest population of Puerto Ricans in the continental U.S. calling Connecticut home, the convenience, reliability and affordability of flying Avelo makes reconnecting with friends and family easier than ever.”
“I am excited by the continued growth of Avelo Airlines at Tweed Airport, particularly with this new route to San Juan,” said Gov. Ned Lamont. “With a location that is easily accessible for many people in southern Connecticut, Tweed offers quick and convenient travel. The addition of routes like this strengthens the region as a whole, improving our economic competitiveness and quality of life.”
Avelo celebrated the flight’s debut with a Puerto Rico-themed ceremony at Tweed Airport Wednesday morning.
