The Alleghany Highlands Visitor Center, which also serves as the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, was recently named a Certified Tourist Information Center by Virginia Tourism. The Chamber had to meet several requirements to become a Tourist Information Center including being open a certain amount of days per week, offer a location that is convenient and easily accessible for travelers, provide brochures and literature that includes information on destinations and their amenities, adequate interstate signage and much more. “We are excited to have been designated as a Certified Tourist Information Center by Virginia Tourism. Many travelers plan their travel routes around the locations of certified visitor centers in our state. This will ultimately increase visitation to the Alleghany Highlands, giving us an even bigger opportunity to shine a light on all the great aspects of our region and community” said Chamber Executive Director, Teresa Hammond.
As a certified center, Virginia Tourism will provide the Alleghany Highlands Visitor Center with a number of beneficial services including a prominent listing as a primary visitor resource on Virginia Tourism’s website & annual travel guide, free annual distribution of one brochure at all twelve Virginia Welcome Centers, hospitality & customer service support, and several other supporting benefits. Rita McClenny, President & CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation said “All of us at Virginia Tourism look forward to working with the staff of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism to promote the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia as a tourist destination.”
As a newly certified Tourist Information Center, the Chamber is excited to welcome even more visitors to the Alleghany Highlands, continue its work showing travelers the beauty of our region, promoting area businesses to new audiences, and providing a welcoming & easily accessible environment to all who pass through the doors of the visitor center.
The Alleghany Highlands Visitor Center is located at 110 Mall Road in Covington and is open Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with expanded hours during busier times of the year.
