Over the Labor Day weekend, the southwestern Washington, D.C., waterfront Wharf neighborhood was alive with the sound of music. Grammy-winning chanteuse Samara Joy headlined the annual DC JazzFest and serenaded overheated festival attendees and dockside bystanders. Restaurants overflowed with handsome couples and groups of singles ready to mingle, while carefree kids and grown folks alike grooved to the ’80s funk and soul flowing from an outdoor DJ set.  As a proud alumna of Howard University, this is the DC I love to see. This upwardly mobile and melanin-blessed scenery was an idyllic backdrop for my solo getaway. If you’re ready…

Wellington, Sydney (6/10 – 33) Nearly a month after suffering brutal humiliation by host country France, New Zealand has barged through to the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter-finals. France is supposed to be a polite, cultured society, but on 8 September they whacked the All Blacks 27-13. Sacré bleu! In that distant past, an ugly performance with questionable strategy and ill-disciplined plays made New Zealand an unlikely choice of becoming the first country in line to win the Rugby World Cup four times. All the rugby world was amazed as the All Blacks boomeranged back in style, picking themselves up…

Bravo fans, it’s time to head back to the Garden State because The Real Housewives of New Jersey is officially returning for season 14. Season 13 ended on a heated note when costars (and sisters-in-law) Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga nearly came to blows over their ongoing feud at the tell-all reunion. Rumors previously circulated that Melissa cheated on husband Joe Gorga, which the “On Display” singer denied and claimed was spread by Teresa. The Gorgas then skipped Teresa’s wedding to Luis “Louie” Ruelas in August 2022 following the drama. The family members even ceased communication, but executive producer Andy Cohen did not think they would opt out of season 14. “I can imagine anything,” Andy exclusively…

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Aug. 18, 2023, signed into law a bill that limits the surcharges that merchants may charge their customers who choose to pay for goods or services using a credit card and requires disclosure of the surcharge (the Act).1 The Act became effective immediately and appears to be the first effort in New Jersey to regulate credit card surcharge fees. Because the Act incorporates the penalty provisions of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (CFA)2 – which authorizes the attorney general to issue fines against violators and customers to seek redress in court through individual and class…

People from far and wide are visiting a seemingly ordinary Home Depot store in New Jersey for an unlikely reason.  Leo, the resident cat at Home Depot in Mount Laurel, has amassed a large following on TikTok after a shopper posted videos of him. “The very first one I did, the first day it hit 4.5M (views),” said Jeff Simpkins. “I’m happy if I get 1,000 views on a video before this.” Leo was adopted by the store about a year ago to keep mice at bay. Jeff met Leo while shopping a little over a month ago and decided…

Greetings, cackling hags! I’m Molly Fitzpatrick, visiting adjunct teaching assistant at the Real Housewives Institute, filling in for Brian Moylan while he’s off piloting a submersible to the bottom of Crappie Lake. Choke down the last slice of your rainbow sashimi pizza from [redacted], and let’s begin. In honor of her contributions as this week’s MVP, I would like to award the grease-stained-paper Burger King crown I keep in my purse at all times in case of emergency to Brynn. (Not to taint this victory with an asterisk, but it probably helped her cause a bit that it was a relatively…

Mayor Eric Adams has only one strategy for the migrant crisis that has brought the city’s homeless-shelter population to six figures: Wrangle billions from Washington. This gambit will continue to fail, as it has for a year — and for two solid political reasons, from national Democrats’ perspective. At best, federal aid would be pointless. New York is a solidly Democratic state. At worst, federal aid will make the problem worse — and more visible to national swing voters. If the definition of insanity is doing — or saying — the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result, Adams…

Will Hurd said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, his rival for the Republican presidential nomination, should take responsibility for a new state curriculum that calls for teaching that slavery gave enslaved people valuable skills. “Implying that there is an upside to slavery is absolutely wrong,” said Hurd, a former US representative running a long-shot bid for the GOP nomination, in an interview Monday with Bloomberg Television’s “Balance of Power.” DeSantis criticized Vice President Kamala Harris last week for going to Florida to condemn the recently adopted social studies curriculum. The Florida governor said he wasn’t involved in drafting the document but…
