The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Bradley Wayne Morris, age 36, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 420 months, per count, for two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in Indian Country and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country. The sentences will run concurrently. The charges arose from investigations by the Muskogee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. On May 5, 2022, a federal jury found Morris guilty on all four counts of a Superseding Indictment at trial. During the trial, the United States presented evidence that between January…
This week, Canadian wildfires are producing significant amounts of smoke that is traveling vast distances, hovering over the eastern United States and producing unhealthy levels of air quality for millions of people. Dr. Gunnar Schade, an associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University, discusses what is causing these hazardous conditions to blanket so much of the U.S. airspace and the related impacts for human health. What is causing fires in Canada to blanket the air at such an alarming level on the East Coast of the U.S.? Simple — current weather conditions. Smoke is lifted into the atmosphere by the heat of…
The Middle East is undergoing a historic transformation with unprecedented opportunities to build new relationships, de-escalate tensions, and foster conditions for stronger integration. At the same time, the region remains on edge because of ongoing tensions in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and other conflict zones, a civil war that broke out recently in Sudan, along with the overarching challenges presented by fraught relations between Iran, Israel, and several Arab Gulf countries — with the longer-term implications of the still-fragile Iranian-Saudi rapprochement yet to be fully assessed. It is difficult to predict where these countervailing trends will take the broader region and…
Worldwide, 1.4 billion adults are insufficiently active, with one in three women and one in four men not engaging in adequate physical activity. In fact, there has been no improvement in physical activity levels since 2001, and physical inactivity is twice as bad in high-income countries than in low-income countries. To combat the negative impact of physical inactivity, in 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a global action plan aimed at reducing physical inactivity by 15% by 2030. By promoting physical activity and encouraging individuals to engage in regular exercise, the WHO seeks to maximize the benefits of physical activity: preventing and…
The biggest question about the Season 3 finale of Apple TV+’s hit Ted Lasso is whether or not it would serve as the comedy’s series finale. Top to bottom, the episode titled “So Long, Farewell” feels like a series finale in how everything gets tied up but the show could certainly carry on as is—with or without Ted (Jason Sudeikis) who pulled the trigger on his move back to Kansas to be with his family. From the moment the episode begins, Ted can’t help but smile while thinking he will be back home with his son Henry (Gus Turner). The pair exchange…
A consumer class action lawsuit filed Tuesday claims Delta Air Lines inaccurately billed itself as the world’s “first carbon-neutral airline” and should pay damages. The complaint in federal court in California alleges the airline relied on carbon offsets that were largely bogus. Companies around the world buy carbon credits to cancel out their carbon releases with projects that promise to absorb carbon dioxide out of the air, or prevent pollution that would’ve happened. But they’ve been under the spotlight in recent months with claims their benefits are exaggerated. The company is a big customer, purchasing credits from projects including wind…
A little more than a week after the Dreamgirls star’s daughter, Corinne Foxx, announced that her dad had experienced a “medical complication,” his friend and fellow comedian Martin Lawrence has shared an update on the actor’s condition. “I hear he’s doing better,” Martin told Extra on April 20. “My prayers go out for him every night and just wishing the best for him, one of the best that we got in Hollywood. Not only one of the best entertainers, but a good person.” Amid his hospitalization, the Academy Award winner has received an outpouring of support from other fellow friends and celebs, including from Ray and Django Unchained co-star, Kerry Washington. Alongside an April…
As the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office considers whether to indict former President Donald Trump over an alleged hush money payment to an adult film actress, authorities in Washington, D.C., are preparing for possible protests. The Senate sergeant at arms told staff members to expect more officers near the Capitol, according to an email obtained by NBC News. “While law enforcement is not tracking any specific, credible threats against the Capitol or state offices, there is potential for demonstration activity,” the email said. Capitol Police are “working with law enforcement partners, so you may observe a greater law enforcement presence on Capitol…
